I’m a little late but…Happy 2017! We are now three months into our new venture and it happened in the blink of an eye. The last half of 2016 was very busy for us as we prepared to launch, and when we finally “opened our doors” we were thankful to be busy. It seems that others love our tea as much as we do! Yay!
Since this is really my first retail experience, it’s been quite the learning curve. Wait. You mean we have to decide on our summer product NOW?! It’s only January! Actually, it all sounded like a party to me. Two full days with my girl, shopping for hours, dinners out, and a sweet hotel room. What is not to love?
What actually happens on shopping day is this: You walk into a building that is approximately 4 city blocks in size, along with thousands of other (mostly) women. There are more stores than you could ever dream of, selling everything under the sun. You meet with vendors who all tell you the same thing. Your customers will love their product and they can barely keep said items in stock. Hmmm. Well, that can’t possibly be true of every single item we saw.
Enthusiastically armed with water bottles, a shopping list, budget notes, and of course, wearing Fitbits and walking shoes, we hit the ground running. We each had an idea of what we would be looking for. I knew Grace and I are like-minded in many things and expected that we would love the same things. And we did. Well, sort of.Needless to say, as different generations, we each have our own opinions of what would be a must-have item. I still don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to buy a patent leather wine purse from our site. In a variety of lovely colors!! (Okay, okay; so we don’t sell wine. But they are NOT for old ladies! And did I mention that they were super cute?) Sorry to say, I didn’t win that argument, but you can’t win them all.
We spent our first day perusing the aisles, pausing to inquire, occasionally raising our eyebrows or cracking up over the items we each proclaimed to be “hideous!” (No, not the wine purses.) We love our new business and we want our customers to continue to love it, too. So we studied, tasted, sipped, and laughed our way through our day and proclaimed it to be a good start. Over dinner, we checked and rechecked our lists, changed our minds a few times, and made our final decisions. Day two was a little more relaxed as we returned to place our orders and spend a bit of “free time” just in case we missed anything really awesome. We didn’t. But all in all, we had a blast. At the end of the day, we dragged our weary feet back to the car and headed toward home.
So, I’ll rate our getaway as “very successful.” Our friendship has grown deeper, and we’ve got new material filed in our memory banks. We will have some really cool, new merchandise on our website very soon. And the new tea flavors…so many, and all so very tasty. We are confident you’ll love them as much as we do.
Time to brew another cup…
